Use Battle Lightning's normal skills according to range: hold R for ranged lightning, use V to rush a target, or press Z followed by M1 for claw attacks. To activate Overvolt, press T for Thunderlord's Beacon, then C. To awaken, equip Battle Lightning, have the Elf race and a full awakening gauge, then press G at the awakening prompt.
Cloverlines Battle Lightning Grimoire: Skills, Overvolt and Awakening
Last updated:
Battle Lightning combines ranged lightning with claw attacks, targeted rushes, and a counter. Its Elf awakening adds faster movement and a new set of six abilities for close-range fights and multiple targets.

Normal Skills and Close-Range Options
Battle Lightning is a Legendary grimoire obtained through grimoire rolls at Grimoire Spire. It is a different book from Thunder; use the grimoire directory to distinguish the two.
Choose your approach by distance. Thunder Discharge lets you attack while facing an enemy from range. Volt Breaker closes the gap toward a selected enemy, making it a useful choice when you want to move into claw range. Thunder Execution serves a different purpose: its movement behind the enemy and kick happen on a successful counter.
The six normal abilities and their controls are listed below. For the required Beacon-to-Overvolt order, follow the activation steps.

Use Thunderlord's Beacon Before Overvolt
With Battle Lightning equipped and its normal moveset active:
- Press T to use Thunderlord's Beacon.
- Follow with C to activate Overvolt.
Successful activation surrounds your character with blue lightning and puts Overvolt on cooldown. Beacon is the prerequisite, so start with T when preparing this move.
Awaken with Elf and a Full Gauge
Battle Lightning Awakening requires Elf, the equipped grimoire, and a full awakening gauge.
- Equip Battle Lightning Grimoire on your Elf character.
- Once the awakening gauge is full, press G at the “G to awakening” prompt.
- After transforming, use the awakened skill list in place of your normal abilities.
Awakening changes your appearance with lightning armor and increases movement speed. The controls now activate different moves: for example, C becomes Thunder God's Judgment.
If you need Elf, approach Elder Halen in the safe zone, press E at the Roll prompt, and choose Race. Prefer Special Spins when aiming for Elf because they offer a better chance of the target race. See race rerolls and Spins for the broader reroll process and resource options.
Awakened Skills and PvE Sequences
The awakened kit favors staying close enough to connect its uppercut, dash kick, and grab. Use Thunderclap Barrage or True Lightning: Keraunos for close-range pressure, and Lightning Phantom when you want repeated dashing attacks. Against a group, Thunder God's Judgment is the strongest fit by target coverage: it can strike up to four targets per use.
Berserker Lightning Hunt grabs and follows with further attacks. Against Barolin, its sequence ends with a kick; against Selian Valcrest, it includes dragging the opponent along the ground and throwing them.
Godspeed Annihilation combines high-speed movement with a finishing explosion. In the awakened setup used against Selian Valcrest, its cooldown is approximately 20 seconds.

Build Around Mobility and Awakening
Prioritize Elf if awakening is your goal. For combat, build your approach around closing distance, maintaining claw pressure in normal form, and switching to the awakened attacks when your gauge is ready.
- For normal-form melee: use Volt Breaker to approach a selected enemy, then fight with Lightning Beast Claws and M1. Keep Thunder Execution as your counter option.
- For an awakened boss fight: practice consecutive skill use while staying in position for the close-range attacks. Faster movement helps you reposition between attacks.
- For multiple enemies: favor Thunder God's Judgment when you can take advantage of its target coverage.
Selian Valcrest attack sequence
With the relevant skills unlocked and awakening active, one PvE sequence against Selian Valcrest is:
- E — Thunderclap Barrage
- R — True Lightning: Keraunos
- Z — Berserker Lightning Hunt
- X — Lightning Phantom
- C — Thunder God's Judgment
- V — Godspeed Annihilation
Use this as an order for consecutive casts, adjusting your position to the boss between moves. For the encounter's location, attacks, and drops, see the Selian Valcrest guide.
Using C against Ceryn
Thunder God's Judgment also works against a single boss such as Ceryn, the Cinderweaver. Use awakened C to throw the lightning ball and follow with lightning strikes; its multi-target role does not limit it to groups. The Ceryn and Witch Regent route covers the challenge and its material progression.
If you are choosing between grimoire playstyles, compare Null and Battle Lightning for PvE. Battle Lightning is a good fit when you want claw attacks, targeted movement, and an Elf-based awakening.
