Cloverlines Null vs Battle Lightning: PvE Tier List

Last updated:

Battle Lightning favors aggressive close-range movement, while Null offers sword combat across multiple forms. Your preferred fighting style, awakening access, and existing investment help decide which grimoire to keep.

Battle Lightning is our S-tier pick over A-tier Null for PvE when prioritizing mobility, multi-target tools, and roll rarity with the relevant forms available. Its awakening requires Elf and a full gauge. Null, also called Anti-Magic, remains a strong choice for sword combat or continued investment in a grimoire you already own. These tiers compare practical options for quests and bosses, not measured DPS.

PvE Recommendation: Battle Lightning First, Null for Sword Play

Choose Battle Lightning for mobile close-range combat; choose Null if sword attacks and multiple combat forms suit you better. Our S and A tiers compare these two grimoires with their relevant forms available, weighing mobility, multi-target tools, and the rarity category you need to roll.

Battle Lightning takes the lead because it combines targeted rushes, claw basic attacks, and a counter, then gains movement speed and a multi-target lightning attack through awakening. Its Legendary category also has a lower guarantee target than Null's Mythic category.

Null earns its place as a strong alternative through sword progression, first-awakening area attacks, and Devil Union's ranged and area options. If you already have Null and enjoy its moveset, keep developing it—the lower tier is not a reason on its own to reroll.

Why Battle Lightning Leads This Comparison

Battle Lightning gives you several ways to handle close-range encounters:

  • Lightning Beast Claws provides claw M1 attacks for basic melee combat.
  • Volt Breaker rushes toward a selected enemy, helping you close the distance.
  • Thunder Execution adds a counter option against incoming attacks.

Awakening strengthens the mobility argument and adds a useful group attack. With Battle Lightning equipped, Elf as your race, and a full awakening gauge, press G at the awakening prompt. The form increases movement speed and replaces your normal skills. Thunder God's Judgment throws a lightning ball and calls down lightning on up to four targets, making it especially appealing when fighting several enemies. Against a single boss, targeted rushes and close-range attacks are the more relevant reasons to choose the kit.

Legendary versus Mythic roll costs

Battle Lightning belongs to the Legendary category, with tower odds of 1 in 70 and a standard guarantee target of 100 rolls. Null belongs to Mythic, with odds of 1 in 179 and a standard guarantee target of 250 rolls. With Roblox Plus, those guarantee targets become 70 and 175 rolls, respectively.

These are rarity-category odds and guarantees, not the chance or guaranteed cost of obtaining either specific grimoire. They favor pursuing Battle Lightning's category when starting from neither book, but do not promise Battle Lightning after 100 rolls. Use the grimoire roll guide for the location, roll process, and remaining-resource calculation.

When Null Is the Better Fit for You

Choose Null if you want sword combat, enjoy progressing through different forms, or already have a Null build underway. Its Anti-Magic kit offers more than basic sword swings:

  • Early progression: put most points into Strength for skill access, with the remainder in Health. This is a progression direction rather than a fixed point ratio.
  • First awakening: Null Cyclone repeatedly hits enemies while held, and Grand Slicer provides broad coverage. These give a sword-focused character options for area pressure.
  • Devil Union: Black Hurricane reaches distant targets, while Black Meteorite lands with an area explosion and Abyss Breaker detonates a surrounding field.

Those tools make Null a practical choice for both quest enemies and bosses. Devil Union still demands positioning and survival investment: its separate form gauge decreases over time, and the form does not make you invulnerable. When using Black Meteorite against an active boss such as Selian Valcrest, pay attention to where you land; dropping directly beside the boss can leave you in a poor position.

For a character already invested in Null, learning those attacks and improving survival is a sensible next step before spending resources to replace the grimoire.

Match Your Race and Learn the Chosen Moveset

  • Choosing Battle Lightning: prioritize keeping or choosing Elf for awakening access. Follow the Battle Lightning guide for its normal skills, Overvolt, and awakened moveset.
  • Choosing Null: follow the Null progression and first-awakening guide for skill controls and stat priorities. For the later form, the Devil Union guide covers a working relaunch-version setup using Null and Demonkin, plus activation and gauge management. Demonkin is a working configuration here, not a claim that it is the only eligible race.
  • Changing your character setup: use the races and rerolls guide to compare race choices and manage rerolls.
  • Preferring summons over either melee style: consider Shadow, which offers cat and rooster summons alongside transformations. Find its abilities in the grimoire directory.
